Lane Closures and Traffic Shift to new Clearwater Road Alignment

US Constructors, the contractors for the Palmetto Parkway (I-520) in Aiken County, announce that beginning Monday, July 14, 2008, the process of shifting traffic to the new alignment for Clearwater Road will begin. The process is expected to take 2 to 3 days and will include temporary lane closures in both directions.

Work began on this segment of road in February 2007 and includes an entirely new roadway from approximately Cherokee Drive to approximately ¼ mile east of US 25. This new roadway accommodates the construction of a new overpass for the mainline of I-520.

Beginning Monday morning, July 14, at 8:30, and continuing throughout the day, there will be lane closures as crews raise the existing Clearwater Road elevation to match the new roadway elevation. In addition to flagmen there will also be law enforcement on site to slow traffic through the work zone.

At this time, it is expected that traffic will be partially shifted onto the new roadway on Tuesday morning July 15th as directed by flagmen. Pending unfavorable weather conditions and unforeseen delays, it is anticipated that all traffic may be released onto the complete new roadway on Tuesday evening.

While the contractor expects to maintain travel through the area, temporary traffic delays are expected and motorists are asked to use caution and avoid the area if possible.
