  • Will there be a multi-use pathway?
Yes, the multi-use path will be for walkers, runners, and bicyclists and ultimately connect with the existing North Augusta Greeneway. When the construction of I-520 is completed the multi-use path will extend from Atomic Road to Ascauga Lake Road running in a generally northerly direction along the I-520 right of way. The path will be located to west of the roadway (the US Highway 25 side) for approximately 5 miles.

The path will begin near the intersection of Carolina Springs Road at Atomic Road. It will terminate near the existing Department of Motor Vehicles office on Ascauga Lake Road.
  • Will the bridge go over or under Ascauga Lake Road?
It has been decided after careful consideration that the bridge will go under Ascauga Lake Road. The contractors in conjunction with the SCDOT and the Federal Highway Administration reviewed alternative designs to the intersection with the existing Ascauga Lake Road. Public meetings (Open House at North Augusta Community Center) and input were sought during the process. In the end, all parties agreed to remain with the original design and I-520 will pass underneath Ascauga Lake Road.
  • Who is building the bridge structures, interchanges, and roadway?
United Contractors, Inc. out of Great Falls, South Carolina is the prime contractor. U.S. Constructors, Inc. out of Columbia, South Carolina is the project manager for the project and is conducting the roadway efforts. Their on-site offices can be found at 1980 Ascauga Lake Road in North Augusta.
